That is sort of what I am trying to do by shorting the market.  I haven't sold most of the stocks I hold except for those I think are overvalued.  The rest I am holding.

If the market falls, I will make some money to cover my losses, then can buy more stocks at the lower prices - in effect doubling down (hopefully near the bottom).
